Eveline is the protagonist of the story. She is given the choice to elope with Frank(see below), but in the end Eveline decides not to and stays in Ireland. She is constantly looking at the pros and cons of the decisions she makes, and this shows that she wants to please everyone.Not only do we know that she tries to please everyone we also learn that living without her mother and her abusive father have made her timid and afraid of change which ultimately affects her decision not to leave to Buenos Ayres.
Frank is a sailor, and he plans to elope with Eveline and go to Buenos Ares. He is kind, manly and open-hearted, and he took Eveline to see The Bohemian Girl and he enjoyed music and sang a little.
Mr. Hill
Mr. Hill is Eveline's abusive father, and is an alcoholic. Mr. Hill forbade Eveline from seeing Frank, and forced them to meet an secret. He become more violent after his wife had died, and this violence was probably becuase of the dead of his wife.
